AppX had the opportunity to contribute to the LinkYou project, developing an app that aims to improve the employability of young graduates through a crowdsourcing platform.
LinkYou is a project co-financed by the European Union. Together with Latin America, this service aims to contribute to the exchange of knowledge between academia and companies. The project intends to modernize the way research topics arise and reach students, as well as enhance employability through closer contact between academia and companies.
AppX had the opportunity to contribute to this project with its software development services using state of the art web and mobile technologies, making the “Challenge Academy” app a reality.
In a digital society characterized by the demand for new experiences by users, the academic world also seeks to reinvent itself and adapt to the agility of the market in the search for academic solutions to solve problems in the business world.
Our challenge was centered on creating a platform that bridges the gap between industry challenges and academic expertise. This involved enabling professional partners to present real-world business problems for exploration through research projects and thesis by university students, alongside facilitating connections with professors and researchers.
We design and developed a crowdsourcing mobile app called “Challenge Academy”, allowing the registration of students, professionals, teachers and researchers. In the app, professional partners can challenge university students to solve concrete business problems through research projects and master’s thesis. At the same time, the platform allows professors and researchers to come into contact with real business needs.
The digital platform allows professionals to propose challenges to the academic community, inspired by the concrete needs they encounter, while also encouraging contact with professors and researchers.
Teachers and researchers can validate the challenges proposed by the professionals and create work groups, dissertation topics or related case studies.
Students can find the topics proposed by the teachers and researchers and contact them to respond to these.
The solution is based on a progressive web app complemented by a web-based administration back-office. Development was executed utilizing React for the app presentation and Laravel for the back-end, supported by MySQL for data management. A push notification system has been seamlessly integrated to ensure real-time updates are communicated to all stakeholders regarding changes made to each integrated challenge.
The platform was meticulously designed for effortless code maintenance and streamlined development. All data structures are managed within easily configurable files, eliminating the necessity for codebase modifications. This enables seamless implementation of new data, languages, and layouts through simple adjustments to the configuration files.
With dozens of partner companies and universities and hundreds of students registered in Portugal and Latin America, AppX is proud of the way this project has contributed to boost employability and bring private funds for academic research.
